Common Name: Emu
Natural habitat: Open grassland with widely spaced bushes and trees
Natural foods: Fruit, young shoots and flowers, and occasionally insects like caterpillars
Life expectancy: 20 Years
Other comments: Females lay eggs but it’s the male who sits on them for 8 weeks until they hatch. During this time the male will stay sitting on the eggs, without even getting up to eat or drink. The male continues to look after them until they are about 18 months old.
